So you want to study abroad. Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a lifetime. For this reason, there are hundreds upon thousands of opportunities vying for your business in the industry. With so many possibilities to choose from, it is important to focus on what you want and need to advance your career. Study abroad is not a vacation; it is a significant opportunity to enhance your qualifications and marketability, for the next ideal stage of professional life.  

While study abroad can be wonderful in its own rite, it is not easy, or at least it shouldn’t be! Living in another country is difficult, and to some degree, it is uncomfortable. At times, it takes a great deal of patience and perseverance to get through the days. Remember that study abroad is not supposed to be a break from or a vacation during college; it is supposed to be a challenging part of your college experience that allows you to grow in your personal and professional character.  

It is not study abroad, but the appropriate challenge in study abroad that is valuable to you as a college student. Just think about how you’d turn out if all of your college classes were easy; where there is no challenge, there is no growth. Before you decide to go abroad, choose an experience. If you are just looking for a vacation, do yourself a favor and don’t study abroad…go outside of school for a lot less money! Keep vacations off your resume; employers know the difference.
